Knowing which routes have the best encounters is crucial. Here are the must-know catches in Pokemon Black.
Route 1 - Lillipup (S-tier): Stoutland is one of the best Pokemon in the entire game. Intimidate ability, great bulk, strong STAB Return. Do not overlook this common encounter.
Route 3 - Blitzle: Zebstrika is fast and hits hard. Motor Drive gives Electric immunity. Solid team member for the whole game.
Wellspring Cave - Roggenrola: Boldore is an excellent physical tank. Sturdy ability is a built-in Focus Sash that can save you from unexpected OHKOs.
Pinwheel Forest - Timburr: Gurdurr is excellent even without trade evolution. Great Attack stat and bulk for the mid-game.
Desert Resort - Sandile (S-tier): Krookodile with Moxie is a Nuzlocke monster. Ground/Dark typing gives amazing coverage. One of the best Pokemon in any Unova Nuzlocke.
Desert Resort - Darumaka (S-tier): Darmanitan has the highest Attack stat of any non-legendary in Unova. Sheer Force makes it a nuclear option against anything that does not resist Fire.
Chargestone Cave - Joltik: Galvantula with Compound Eyes plus Thunder has 91% accuracy. Fast special attacker with unique Bug/Electric coverage.
Route 6 - Deerling: Sawsbuck is surprisingly good with Sap Sipper (Grass immunity), Horn Leech for recovery, and Jump Kick for coverage.
Twist Mountain - Cubchoo: Beartic provides crucial Ice-type coverage for Drayden Dragon gym. Not amazing stats but fills a critical role.
Route 9 - Pawniard: Bisharp is incredibly strong. Dark/Steel typing with Defiant ability can sweep entire teams.
Victory Road - Mienfoo: Mienshao is fast and powerful. Regenerator keeps it healthy throughout long Elite Four runs.
In hardcore Nuzlocke rules, you cannot exceed the next gym leader strongest Pokemon level:
